Renovations Begin at Ambulance Sub-Station

By EMS Chief John Sly
May 6, 2013

On Monday, May 6th, 2013 a renovation project began at our satellite ambulance facility located at the Wagontown Fire Company.

In order to provide emergency medical services to the Townships of West Caln, West Brandywine, Wallace, and East Brandywine, we faced several abrupt changes in order to transition to expand service back in 2011 when our ambulance service began operating out of a secondary location.

One of the challenges was operating a 24/7 staffed service with limited living quarters for our employees. After more than a year of utilizing a make-shift bedroom located within an office, we are beginning to invest in station improvements at the Wagontown Fire Company.

Thanks to a grant received from the Brandywine Health Foundation in the amount of $10,000 along with private contributions and donations, we have begun the renovation project which will provide for separate male and female bunkrooms and a crew lounge area. This project will also allow for the Wagontown Fire Company to improve fire staffing levels during times of inclement weather or special events when volunteers may need to sleep at the fire station.

With the assistance of Belfor Property Restoration, we will be able to complete this project with a limited budget while gaining the necessary improvements.

The Westwood Ambulance service operating out of the Wagontown Fire Company currently provides emergency medical care to over 40 square miles of territory within five municipalities and protects more than 18,000 residents. We operate with around-the-clock full time ambulance staffing of two Emergency Medical Technicians 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year.

We would like to again thank the Brandywine Health Foundation and Belfor Property Restoration for their financial and contractor support to improve our operations.

Check back for future updates on this project.
