On Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 Westwood Fire and EMS units were dispatched at 1457 to Mile Marker 270.8 on the Eastbound Route 30 Bypass in Valley Township.

Ambulance 44-1 responded one minute after dispatch at 1458. Assistant Chief Scott also responded at 1500. Reports to the Chester County 911 indicated that an SUV had slid into the embankment and injuries were unknown.

Rescue 44 responded at 1501, while Battalion Chief Sly arrived on the scene at the same time.

Battalion 44 reported that a single vehicle had rolled over and was on the side of the road. Battalion 44 quickly confirmed three patients; one with a head injury, and one confined to the back seat of the vehicle. He requested units from Medic 93 and an additional Ambulance to respond to assist.

Ambulance 144 was dispatched at 1504 and responded one minute later at 1505.

Assistant 44 arrived on the scene at 1506 and established "Bypass Command." Command instructed Rescue 44 to prepare to utilize the 'Jaws of Life' hydraulic rescue tools to gain access to the patient in the rear of the vehicle.

EMS personnel from Ambulance 44-1 quickly attended to the most seriously injured patient and loaded for transport to the hospital.

Rescue 44 arrived on the scene at 1511 and had completed the extrication process in less than 7 minutes.

Ambulance 144 arrived and began care for the second injured patient.

Both Ambulances along with Medic 93 units transported patients to Paoli Hospital's Trauma Unit for treatment.

Fire/Rescue units cleared the scene at 1552.
