Mulch Fire in East Fallowfield Township
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Deputy Fire Chief Randy Scott
April 3, 2016

On the morning of Sunday April 3rd, 2016 at 0345 hours the Westwood Fire Company was alerted for a larch mulch fire at a local business in East Fallowfield Township.

Upon arrival of Deputy Chief Scott, he reported a very large pile of mulch actively burning. During the production process of making mulch it naturally creates heat within its piles. Due to the high winds and low humidity this evening, it fueled the fire and spread very quickly.

Owner's Representatives were contacted and arrived to begin to bury the burning mulch. The application of water on the mulch can potentially damage the mulch and cause it to not be sold.

The Fire Company stood by with Engine 44-5 to provide lighting until the employees had the situation under control.

Units cleared at 5:00am.

Units: Engine 44-5, Ambulance 44-1, Traffic 44, Deputy Chief Buggy

Mutual Aid: East Fallowfield Police
