Dual Calls on Airport Road

By Assistant Fire Chief Adam Grossman

On Easter Sunday, April 16th, 2017 as many volunteers were preparing to eat dinner with their families, a call came in for the 100 block of Airport Road in Valley Township reporting mulch on fire next to a commercial building. Engine 44-5 and Chief 44 made the response.

Arriving at 1508, Engine 44-5 deployed the 100' trash line to extinguish the mulch on fire. Upon investigating it was determined there was smoke inside of the adjacent building and entry was necessary to check for extension. Fortunately after firefighters investigated, the results came back negative for fire extension and only ventilation was required.

While preparing to clear the scene of the first emergency, an accident was heard at Airport Road and Route 30. Westwood units redirected to that scene and began mitigation. A second ambulance was initially requested but later recalled. Sadsburyville Utility 31 was requested for traffic control and assisted with accident scene clean up.
