Reported House Fire in Hayti

On December 12th, 2019 at 2012 hours the Westwood, Sadsburyville and Wagontown Fire Companies were dispatched to the 900 block of George Street in the Hayti Section of Valley Township for a house fire. Within minutes of dispatch, Engine 44-5 and Ambulance 44-1 as well as Engine 31-1, Engine 31-2 and Engine 35 were all responding.

Chief Grossman arrived at 2016 hours and reported a single story rancher with no smoke or fire conditions evident from the exterior. Chief Grossman was met by the Valley Township Police Department who was inside investigating and did not find any smoke or fire inside, however they did report an odor of particles burning.

Engine 31-1 arrived first due at 2019 hours and crews investigated for a furnace malfunction. At this time the assignment was scaled back and the Wagontown Fire Company was recalled. Engine 31-2 arrived at 2022 hours and staged with additional manpower. Engine 44-5 also reported to staging to await further assignment.

Ambulance 44-1 was on scene and treated a patient that was complaining of some symptoms associated with the odor in their house but the patient refused treatment.

Westwood and Sadsburyville firefighters performed natural ventilation of the room where the oil burner was located and checked the house for carbon monoxide. All results came back negative and all units cleared the scene at 2030 hours.
