| On Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 our training focused on water supply at the fire scene.
Our neighbors from Coatesville and Modena Fire Companies joined us again for this exercise. The night started off with a brief classroom session where Coatesville Training Officer Mark Sweitzer talked about some important things to think about when you are the first truck arriving on a fire scene, such as Engine placement, water supply options, and water shuttle routes.
Past Chief R.P. Scott touched on some important factors to consider with port-a-tank placement and use. He also stressed the importance of knowing where the water supply sources are in your first run territory.
We then moved to the engine room for a brief overview of the trucks and the components used in port-a-tank and water supply operations. Next, crews went outside where we set up the port-a-tank and utilized the quick dump valves on Engine 44-5 to fill the port-a-tank with water in a matter of minutes.
Then, crews set up the hard suction sleeves and proceeded to draft the water from the the port-a-tank back into the truck and flowed it through a hose line. In the end, everyone helped clean up and get the equipment back in service. This proved to be another successful training session; working together with our neighbors to better serve our community.
Thanks to all that attended for a great training night! |
