Fire Police Sworn In and a Special Presentation to the Valley Township Board of Supervisors

By Fire Chief Michael McWilliams

On Tuesday, April 16th, 2013 several members of the Westwood Fire Company Fire Police Division were sworn in during the regular municipal Township meeting.

Fire Police Captain Leary, Fire Police Lieutenant Pilotti, Fire Police Officer Kolb, Fire Police Officer Gatchel, and Fire Police Officer Elder each took the oath of office administered by Valley Township Supervisors Chairwoman Patrice Proctor while Police Chief Friel held the bible.

Shortly following that ceremony, Fire Chief McWilliams presented the monthly Fire Company report followed by EMS Chief Sly presenting the monthly Ambulance report.

At the conclusion of the report presentations, Chief Sly also made a special presentation to the Valley Township Board of Supervisors and members of the Apparatus Committee involved in the purchase of the new Engine 44-5.

This committee was established back in 2009 and spent more than nine months researching and developing specifications to replace our previous twenty-plus-year-old Pumper/Tanker. The committee was chaired by Chief Sly and comprised two more members of the fire company and two members of the Township Board of Supervisors.

Together, the group was able to design and purchase an extremely functional yet economical piece of apparatus through the diligence of the Board of Supervisors by utilizing funding from the Valley Township taxpayers to ensure the community has safe and adequate equipment to protect our residents.

Chief Sly expressed his gratitude to the Board and the members who worked hard to bring the newest piece of firefighting equipment to our community.
