Fatal Accident in Modena Borough

On Friday, December 19th, 2014 Rescue 44 was dispatched at 0505 to assist the Modena Fire Company for an auto accident with reported entrapment on Modena Road north of Union Street in Modena Borough.

Modena Chief Dowlin arrived at 0511 and confirmed a vehicle overturned with two occupants trapped inside. Rescue 44 and Ambulance 44-1 both responded at 0511 and arrived on the scene at 0518.

Modena Chief Dowlin established "Modena Road Command" and requested an additional medic unit for the second patient. Traffic 44 responded and assisted Modena Fire Police with closing the roadway.

The crew of Rescue 44 and Modena firefighters worked to extricate the first trapped occupant. The extrication was completed within 21 minutes from arrival. Unfortunately, a third victim succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.

Ambulances from Modena and Westwood both transported patients to Paoli Memorial Hospital's Trauma Unit.

Rescue 44 cleared the scene at 0622. Traffic 44 remained on the scene to assist the accident investigation teams and did not clear until 1256.
