On Monday, December 8th, 2014 at the Chester County Commissioner's Monthly Sunshine Meeting, the Board of Commissioners acknowledged and honored Battalion Chief Sly's recent State BLS Practioner of the Year award. The BLS Practitioner of the Year is awarded to honor an individual Basic Life Support provider who has contributed significantly to the development and growth of Emergency Medical Services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Battalion Chief Sly was awarded for his leadership in founding the Westwood Quick Response Service in 1999 followed by our Ambulance service in 2000. During his term as Fire Chief, he also was instrumental in establishing the first Department of Health recognized Rescue Service in Chester County.

Commissioner Terence Farrell began the presentation ceremony as the first order of business at the meeting following an introduction by Chester County Department of Emergency Services Director Bobby Kagel. Commissioner Farrell read a citation prepared for Chief Sly and honored his commitment and service to the residents of Chester County as a firefighter and EMT with both the Westwood and Sadsburyville Fire Companies. Commissioner Kathi Cozzone and Commissioners Chairman Ryan Costello also gave their praise before photos were taken with the Board of Commissioners and Chief Sly.

We once again would like to congratulate Chief Sly on his accomplishment in being recognized for a state level award and also would like to thank the County Commissioners for their continued excellent support of emergency services throughout Chester County.
