ATV Assists at Freedom Fest

By Deputy EMS Chief George Morris
July 4, 2015

Once again this year, Westwood Fire Company EMS was requested for the ATV and Medical Crew to assist at the annual Freedom Festival held at the Nottingham County Park in West Nottingham Township, assisting the Union Fire Company, Ambulance Division.

EMS Chiefs Dill and Morris arrived at the staging area around 1600 hours to be greeted by EMS Manager Sawyers who directed them to their post at the West Nottingham Township Building. ATV 44 would be utilized to enter the park in the event of a medical emergency and assess, treat, and transport any sick or injured person, out of the park to an awaiting ambulance for transport to a hospital.

The Crew was given a briefing of the event action plan, and a brief orientation to the park and how to navigate through the various areas was provided to the EMS and Fire units operating at the festival.

Crews were provided dinner at the West Nottingham Township Building prior to the start of the event. Crews had an opportunity to socialize with Fire and EMS crews from Oxford and West Grove in Chester County, Rising Sun in Cecil County, MD, Robert Fulton, Christiana and Quarryville Fire Companies in Lancaster County, along with numerous Law Enforcement officers from across Chester County.

After an uneventful evening, leading up to a spectacular fire works show, Chester County COMM1 alerted EMS Crews of a request for EMS at the launch site where there was an injured person to be evaluated. 21-20 and Medic 94-3 escorted ATV 44, and a provider from the Rising Sun transport unit, to the injured person. On arrival at the scene, the patient refused treatment. 21-20 requested ATV 44 to return to its post.

ATV 44 returned to station at approximately 2400 hours.

We would like to thank Oxford EMS Manager Nick Sawyers for once again allowing us to assist them with this event.
