On Friday January 22nd, 2016 at 1938 hours the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched to assist the City of Coatesville on an apartment fire in the 300 block of West Lincoln Highway in Coatesville. Also on the assignment was the Modena Fire Company and Veterans Affairs Fire Department.

Coatesville Engine 43-1 arrived on location and confirmed a working kitchen fire. Firefighters deployed a 1-3/4" hose line to the rear of the structure and made entry into the apartment on fire. Once inside firefighters encountered flames in the kitchen area and smoke throughout. The fire was quickly extinguished and firefighters took nearby windows to ventilate the smoke.

Lincoln Highway Command was established by Coatesville Battalion Chief Lentz and Deputy Chief Scott assumed operations.

Engine 44-5, carrying 3,000 gallons of water, arrived minutes later and supplied Engine 43-1 with water. Firefighters assisted with ventilation and opened up ceilings and walls around the fire area to check for extension. Reports indicated no extension beyond the kitchen area. VA Firefighters deployed a positive pressure fan to remove the smoke from the apartment. The fire was quickly placed under control.

Firefighters from Modena, Westwood and Coatesville wrapped up all hose lines laid by Engine 43-2 to extinguish the fire. Ambulance 44-1 was also on the scene standing by in the event of an emergency and for firefighter rehab. Traffic 44 directed traffic around the scene at Lincoln Highway and Strode Avenue.
