On August 15th, 2016 at 1333 the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched for a technical rescue at Grove Avenue and Kirby Street in the Westwood section of Valley Township. Initially the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched for a fire alarm in East Fallowfield, when Fire Police Officer Law was responding he observed a person roll their lawn mower into a creek trapping them.

Upon arrival of Rescue 44 they went in service with stabilization and utilized air bags to lift the lawn mower off of the patient. This process took several minutes and manpower which is when Engine 31-1 was summoned to the scene.

The extrication was complete approximately 15 minutes after arriving on location. Ambulance 44-1 and Medic 93 transported the patient to a local trauma center for further evaluation.

While picking up from this call, Engine 31-1 was redirected to a shrubbery fire in the 1200 block of West Lincoln Highway. Engine 31-1 arrived to find a controlled burn and recalled the assignment.

This was one of 8 calls Westwood Fire was dispatched for beginning at 0200. All calls our volunteers handled included a building fire in Kinzers, cardiac arrest in Round Hill, tractor trailer fire on the Route 30 Bypass, gas leak inside in Hillview, automatic fire alarm on Park Avenue, technical rescue in Westwood, carbon monoxide alarm on Glenrose Road and a shrubbery fire on Lincoln Highway.
