By Assistant Chief Adam Grossman
July 16, 2019

On July 16th, 2019 at 1624 hours the Westwood and Sadsburyville Fire Companies were dispatched to Bardel Drive and Tifton Lane in the Round Hill Section of Valley Township for an auto fire. The caller reported a car on fire in the middle of the roadway and everyone was out of the car.

Arriving within minutes, Assistant Chief Grossman reported an engine compartment well involved with flames. It was confirmed there was nobody in the vehicle and the area was secured from bystanders. When a car is on fire it is extremely important to not be close to the vehicle because tires, shocks and other car components might explode or launch out causing injury or death.

Rescue 44 arrived first due at 1634 hours and firefighters stretched a 1-3/4" crosslay to the hot zone and began to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and began to open the hood and dash area of the car. Firefighters had the fire under control at 1637 hours, just 3 minutes after arriving on the scene.

Additional manpower from the Sadsburyville Fire Company arrived and assisted with opening the car, overhauling and wrapping up the hose line and tools. Westwood and Sadsburyville Fire Companies worked hand in hand to bring the incident under control and wrapped up in a timely manner. All units cleared the scene at 1655 hours.
