On Thursday May 4th, 2023 at 22:20, the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched to the westbound Route 30 Bypass West of Airport Road for an automobile on fire. The caller had reported a vehicle to be on fire on the side of the road at mile marker 269.5 in Valley Township.

Engine 44-5 with on duty career and volunteer personnel made an immediate response at the time of dispatch.

Battalion Chief Sly arrived to find a vehicle fully involved with flames. Engine 44-5 arrived, blocked the highway traffic, deployed a hose line and started extinguishing the fire.

Firefighters worked for 10 minutes to bring the fire under control and opening the vehicle to ensure all flames had been doused. All units cleared the scene at 23:47, returning to station to fuel the engine, refill with water and rack the hose line back on.
