| A series of winter storms swept through the region this weekend, keeping Westwood Fire Company and EMS personnel extremely busy. Between Friday and Sunday, crews responded to over 70+ emergencies across a response area stretching more than 200 square-miles — from West Nantmeal Township down to Penn Township, and from Salisbury Township to Caln Township.
Among the many storm‑related incidents were several motor vehicle accidents, including two that were serious in nature.
- Highland Township Entrapment – Cochranville Fire Local
The first major accident occurred in Highland Township, with the initial dispatch at 14:11 for Westwood’s ambulance, 14:12 for Medic 344‑1, and 14:21 for Medic 44‑1. Westwood responded with three EMS units for reports of multiple patients. Cochranville Fire personnel arrived and deployed hydraulic rescue tools to extricate occupants from the involved vehicles.
- Penn Township Multi‑Patient Accident – West Grove Fire Local
A second serious crash occurred in the 400 block of N Jennersville Road in Penn Township. This incident was reported with eight patients involved between two vehicles which summoned multiple EMS and Rescue units into the scene.
Westwood EMS transported multiple patients from both major accidents to area hospitals for further evaluation.
The Westwood Fire Division handled 11 calls over the weekend. Notable incidents included:
- A building fire in Modena Borough
- An off‑road low‑angle rescue in Sadsbury Township
Despite hazardous roadways, freezing temperatures, and a high call volume, Westwood’s fire and EMS personnel — along with our mutual‑aid partners — worked tirelessly to ensure the community remained safe throughout the storms. |
