| The Westwood Fire Company is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Barry Joseph “Joe” Friel Sr., known to many of us simply as Chief Friel of the Valley Township Police Department. Chief Friel was a lifelong resident of the area and a respected leader within the Valley Township community. To our members, he was best known for his exceptional service as Police Chief, where his professionalism, steady leadership, and dedication to public safety set a standard for all to follow. In 2007, Chief Friel was honored as Law Officer of the Year, a well‑deserved recognition of his commitment to law enforcement and the community he served. Beyond the badge, Chief Friel was a devoted family man who cared deeply for his children and those closest to him. His presence at community events—such as Valley Township Christmas parties and Community Day celebrations at our fire station—reflected his genuine connection to the people he served. Many of our members fondly remember his kindness, his humor, and the respect he always showed toward our organization. We are profoundly grateful for the strong relationship we shared with Chief Friel over the years. His legacy of service, integrity, and community spirit will not be forgotten. On behalf of the officers and members of the Westwood Fire Company, we extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Friel family during this difficult time. |
