| On Thursday, Assistant Chief Grossman joined leaders from the Pennsylvania Career Fire Chiefs Association, the Chester County Fire Chiefs Association, PFESI, the Firemen’s Association of Pennsylvania, and fire service industry partners in Washington, D.C. to advocate for critical issues impacting the Pennsylvania fire service. Throughout the day, the delegation met with Pennsylvania state legislators to outline several growing concerns. Among the most urgent topics was the impact of recent DHS funding decisions that threaten the continued operation of the National Fire Academy. Leaders also emphasized the importance of sustaining federal AFG and SAFER grant programs, which remain essential for staffing, training, and equipping fire departments across the Commonwealth. Discussions further highlighted emerging challenges in modern building construction, including proposals for single‑stairwell high‑rise designs and the need for stronger sprinkler requirements to protect both residents and first responders. The group also addressed statewide priorities surrounding firefighter and EMT accreditation, stressing the importance of consistent, high‑quality training standards. Assistant Chief Grossman and the assembled leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that Pennsylvania’s fire service has the resources, support, and legislative backing needed to protect communities safely and effectively. |
