Electrical Fire on Gilmer Road

June 2, 2026

The Westwood Fire Company and mutual‑aid departments were dispatched to the 500 block of Gilmer Road in Valley Township for a reported structure fire. The call came in at 8:52 AM and summoned units from the VA, Coatesville, Wagontown, Lionville, and East Brandywine.

Engine 76 arrived first due, secured a water supply from the nearest hydrant, and deployed a handline to Division 1. Assistant Chief Grossman arrived and assumed Gilmer Road Command, reporting light smoke coming from the garage area of the residence.

Occupants in the neighborhood reported a power outage, and it was believed that an electrical malfunction involving a generator caused the issue.

Firefighters quickly located a small fire contained to the electrical fire box on the generator. The incident was brought under control within minutes with all hands working. The assignment was scaled back to units on scene, and crews spent the remainder of the time racking hose and restoring Engine 76.

If you are experiencing an electrical emergency involving smoke or fire, dial 911 immediately. If there is no smoke or fire, contact your local electric provider for assistance.
