| On Monday, February 5th, 2007 six members of the Westwood Fire Company attended a course in Water Rescue Training held at the Christiana Fire Company in Lancaster County. This class meets the Awareness Level of training set by the National Fire Protection Association. The course was instructed by Captain Todd Stahl who is certified by the PA Fish and Boat Commission and the American Heart Association as a Water Rescue Instructor. Our members reviewed the levels and types of training offered in water rescue, various hazards which may be encountered on water rescue incidents, and basic operations and proper considerations to follow when dealing with water rescues. While we do not have many large bodies of water in this general area, we do experience flooding from time to time and have many small streams and the Brandywine Creek which run through our primary response district. In addition, our new Rescue 44 is equipped with various water and ice rescue equipment and supplies. This class is a base level which will be expanded upon in the future in order for our members to meet higher levels of training and certification. Thanks to Instructor Stahl for his knowledge shared. A special thank you to Chiefs Buckwalter and Lofgren and the members of the Christiana Fire Company for allowing us to participate in this special training session. |
