On Monday, September 21st, 2009 the Westwood Fire Company along with an Engine from the Sadsburyville Fire Company and a Tanker from the East Brandywine Fire Company were dispatched at 1321 to the 800 block of Main Street for a reported building fire.

Engine 44-5 responded three minutes after dispatch at 1324 and was advised by the Chester County 911 Center that the caller hears a fire alarm activating and can see smoke and flames.

After further investigation the caller found it to be unattended cooking and removed the pot and shut off the stove.

Chief 44 arrived on the scene at 1329 and advised there was no fire, however there was a moderate smoke condition in the home. The response was then held to one Engine from Westwood and one Engine from Sadsburyville, and units from East Brandywine were canceled.

Crews from both companies set up and utilized a positive pressure fan to clear the smoke from the residence.

After ventilating smoke from the home for a short period of time, all units cleared at 1344.

This is the second unattended cooking related incident in Valley Township in the past month. Residents are reminded that if you are cooking, please ensure everything is off prior to leaving your home!
