On Thursday, December 10th, 2009 The Chester County Fire Training Program held the a Firefighter Graduation Ceremony at the Wagontown Fire Company.

Several of our members attended to show support to four of our members who have taken fire training courses throughout the year.

The evening began with a performance by The Chester County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums group.

Opening remarks were then given by County Training Coordinator Jeff Groves and Edward Atkins, Director of Emergency Services.

The guest speaker of this ceremony was well known to the area. Firemen Mark Sweitzer, who is also a Captain of the District of Columbia Fire Department and an experienced firefighter with the City of Coatesville Fire Department, gave his remarks to the graduating cadets.

Following the guest speaker, Lead Instructor John DeMarco and George "Beau" Crowding, Deputy Director of Emergency Services handed out the certificates for the "Firefighter I" class graduates. Westwood Firefighter Ryan Gorba was awarded with his certificate for completing the class.

Next, those members who challenged the class and were certified to the current standards were recognized for their efforts. Lieutenant Chris Short and Firefighter Dave Boohar were two of the students who successfully passed.

Then, those members who took the County Pumper/Driver Operator course were recognized for their efforts. Firefighter/EMT Michael Audette was recognized for successfully completing the course.

After closing remarks, refreshments were available courtesy of Belfor Restorations, who are always very generous with assisting our local volunteer firefighters at many various emergencies and events.

The Westwood Fire Company would like to congratulate all those who attended classes throughout the year.
