On Saturday, March 26, 2011 the Chester County Department of Emergency Services held their winter EMT class "Rescue Day" at Westwood Fire Company. The objective of the class was vehicle accidents and multi-patient care.

The class started with a quick tour of the station and Rescue 44. Following the tour the class went outside for class on rapid extrication training using Tac 44.

After lunch break the class restarted with vehicle accident scenarios, which then involved Rescue 44 and members of Westwood Fire Company participation. Ambulance 44-2 was also utilized as a second ambulance for the class to use.

The students were broken up into two groups and were assigned a command officer. The groups were then divided into multiple ambulance crews and were dispatched as needed. The goal was to orient the students with life-like scenarios that they will encounter as EMTs.

Each group was given accidents with real patients and the Rescue team to cut the roof and doors off as needed. They then were to do patient packaging and load the patients into the ambulance. The patients were made up of class instructors and past students.

The class was very informative to all students involved. The Westwood Fire Company would like to thank Chester County EMS Coordinator Rob Linnenbaugh for involving us in the class. We also wish all students the best of luck with the rest of their class and their EMS careers!
