Farewell to a Dispatcher |

| On Wednesday, December 21st, 2005 the 9-1-1 Center that services the County of Chester and dispatches our Company changed forever. Long time dispatcher Ronald A. Lammey retired in his 29th year of serving the County. Anytime someone needed help, Ron would be one of the terrific dispatchers who would answer the 9-1-1 call. Ron always handled calls in a calm, professional, and even uplifting manner. For many years, Ron dispatched the Westwood Fire Company to calls in our area and probably remembers when there certainly weren't as many homes, businesses, and even roads in our Community. Years ago, there were no computers to aid in the dispatch procedure; everything was manually documented on paper. Two way radios were part of "the future" at the time and Ron was there to see our County Communications system grow from index cards to a modern system we now are fortunate to have to serve our volunteers and our Community. Ron has been dispatching longer than many of our active members have even been alive. Ron went off the air in high class today at 1445 hours by sending out a "County-wide" page and announced his retirement from dispatching and thanked all the personnel he has worked with over the years. Audio of his final signoff can be heard here: http://www.westwoodfire.com/content/incidents/Media/dispatcher126.mp3 We would like to congratulate Mr. Lammey on his retirement, and thank him for the many years of being on the other side of the radio when we were on the street. We will miss you, and we wish you the best of luck! Thanks to Michael Groff for the photos. |
