Westwood Expands Advanced Life Support Service

By Westwood Newsdesk
September 1, 2022

After decades of service, TowerDIRECT “Medic 93” has ceased all operations in Western Chester County as of today, 9/1/2022. This has left much uncertainty for residents of the area questioning the availability of Advanced Life Support (ALS) services for the greater Coatesville and Eastern Lancaster County areas.

Since June, Westwood Fire Company leadership has been working non-stop in partnership with municipal officials and neighboring fire companies to ensure seamless continuation of emergency care for the area.

Beginning at 0600 on Thursday, September 1st, Westwood Fire Company has begun operating an additional Paramedic unit (“Medic 344”) out of the Sadsburyville Fire Company No. 1 . The officers and members of Sadsburyville Fire Company have made sure that ALS coverage to the area is a priority; and have worked as great partners to provide us with a location to position a new unit. This will ensure continued ALS service to Sadsbury Township, Atglen Borough, and portions of West Caln Township in Chester County; as well as Christiana Borough, Sadsbury Township, and Salisbury Township in Lancaster County and also backup support for our current ALS service area.

Additionally, Westwood Fire Company has increased staffing to provide ALS services for Coatesville City, South Coatesville Borough, and Modena Borough in addition to our current covered municipalities of Valley and East Fallowfield Township. Westwood Fire Company Ambulance’s Wagontown Division will also continue to provide coverage to West Caln, West Brandywine, and Wallace Townships with current Stations 144 & 244.

These new ventures would not have been possible without the financial support of the aforementioned municipalities who have understood the dire need for ALS care to continue in order to save lives in our region. We are deeply appreciative of the elected officials in these municipalities for their commitment to EMS.

Westwood Fire Company and the remaining Emergency Medical Services in Chester County will continue the mission to provide unmatched emergency medical care to the residents of our communities every day.

Units: Medic 344-1
