On Monday November 3rd, 2025 at 13:32, the Westwood Fire Company and mutual aid were dispatched to the 100 block of Highland Avenue in the Hayti section of Valley Township for a structure fire. Engine 44-5, Ambulance 44-1 and Medic 44-1 all made an immediate response to the call.

Ladder 41 arrived FDT and Engine 44-5 arrived FDE to find a 1.5 story SFD with nothing showing all sides. Once inside firefighters had a moderate smoke condition on division one and began investigating.

Assistant Chief Grossman established the Highland Avenue Command and switched operations to WestOPS1. Ladder 41 deployed their stick to the roof and firefighters inside determined this to be a fire from the fire box and chimney exhaust pipe.

Firefighters utilized a dry chemical fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire and began ventilation using positive pressure ventilation. The situation was placed under control within minutes and held the assignment to 1 and 1.
