Rural Water Supply Training With Mutual Aid
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Assistant Chief Adam Grossman
June 29, 2016

On Wednesday June 29th, 2016, the Westwood Fire Company participated in a regional training session with the Wagontown Fire Company. Also attending the training were Glen Moore, Sadsburyville and West Bradford Fire Compabies.

Tonight's training focused on rural water supply. Fire hydrants are a great source for water in the event of a fire but are not always available, especially in rural Chester County. In situations like this water needs to be shuttled in by tankers to supply a fire scene.

Westwood operates, Engine 44-5, a 3,000 gallon pumper tanker for this operation. A majority of our territory does not have fire hydrants, so a tank truck is necessary. In fact until 2006, the Westwood Fire Company operated two pumper tankers.

Throughout the night Westwood supplied several thousands of gallons of water to the training in conjunction with neighboring tankers from Glen Moore and West Bradford.

Units: Engine 44-5
