Residential Fire on Moody Street

On Sunday February 10th, 2019 at 0710 hours the Westwood Fire Company and mutual aid were alerted for the structure fire in the 100 block of Moody Street in Valley Township. The caller reported a fire in the basement and disconnected from the phone.

Engine 44-5, Rescue 44, Ambulance 44-1 and Deputy 44 all hit the street within minutes of being dispatched. Additionally Engine 31-1, Engine 31-2 and Rescue 35 were all responding.

Wagontown Chief Ziegler arrived at 0718 and reported smoke showing from a residential structure. The Moody Street Command was established and later relinquished to Deputy Chief Scott

Engine 31-1 arrived first due and their crews went interior to the basement division where they located the rapidly spreading fire. Rescue 35 was second due and supplied Engine 31-1 while their crew entered the basement as the search team. Engine 44-5 arrived third due and advanced to division 1 to check for extension and search.

All searches of the home came back negative for occupants. The fire was contained to the basement of the structure with no extension to the above floors.

Additional crews began ventilation via positive pressure and secured the utilities. The fire was placed under control at 0740 hours with all hands working.

An occupant of the house suffered from minor burns. The Chester County Fire Marshal’s Officer was on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
