On August 11, 2010 at 04:22, units from Westwood, Sadsburyville, and Pomeroy Fire Companies were dispatched to 955 Madison Avenue in Valley Township for a reported house fire. Upon his response, Chief 44 (R. Scott) was advised of a fire in a second floor bedroom and that the occupants were attempting to extinguish the fire. Engines 44-5 and 31-2 responded shortly thereafter, with Chief 44 and Engine 44-5 arriving on scene at 04:29. Chief 44 assumed Madison Avenue Command and reported smoke showing from the front door of a two story townhouse. A quick investigation by fire crews on scene confirmed the fire to be out with a moderate smoke condition on the second floor. Madison Avenue Command placed the fire under control and held Engine 44-5 and Ambulance 44-1 for overhaul and ventilation, returning the balance of the assignment.
The Westwood Fire Company would like to remind everyone to be sure that smoke alarms are installed on each level of your home and in each bedroom. Working smoke alarms are critical in providing the early warning needed to escape in the unfortunate event that a fire occurs in your home. Regularly test these alarms and replace the batteries every six months, when we change our clocks.
