Serious Motorcycle Accident on Route 82

On Sunday, August 29th, 2010 the City of Coatesville Fire Department along with the Westwood Fire Company and Medic 93 were simultaneously dispatched at 1848 to Route 82 South of Manor Road in Coatesville City for a motorcycle accident.

Initial reports to 911 indicated a serious accident, with one motorcycle operator reported to be unconscious and not breathing, with bystanders performing CPR on the patient.

Ambulance 44-1 responded immediately at the time of dispatch with a crew on station.

City of Coatesville units arrived on the scene with Medic 93 and confirmed the reports. EMS personnel from the Washington Hose Company and Medic 93 arrived on the scene and immediately began to treat the patient's life threatening injuries.

Ambulance 44-1 arrived on the scene 4 minutes after response at 1852, and Westwood EMS personnel assisted other providers with medical treatment.

Rescue 44 responded at 1854.

As the patient was being packaged for transport, reports of a second incident involving a child struck in the City of Coatesville was reported to the Chester County 911 center. Rescue 44 was diverted to respond to that incident, and Ambulance 44-1 also was requested to respond to assist.

Ambulance 44-1 responded to the second incident at South 5th Avenue and Walnut Street at 1856, and arrived two minutes later at 1858. No patient was located at the scene, and Ambulance 44-1 returned back to the Route 82 incident to provide additional assistance.

In the short time Ambulance 44-1 handled the second emergency, Washies Ambulance 41-1 had already rapidly packaged and loaded the motorcycle victim and began transport to Brandywine Hospital's helipad to meet air medical helicopter Skycare 1 to transport the patient to a trauma facility.

Ambulance 44-1 assisted at the scene with medical clean up and also assisted the police department.

Westwood Fire Police assisted by closing off Route 82 between Wagontown Road and Manor Road.

All units cleared the scene at 2017 following the police investigation.
