Rural Water Supply Training
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Assistant Chief Adam Grossman
June 26, 2019

On June 26th, 2019 the Westwood Fire Company provided Engine 44-5 to the Thorndale Fire Company for their weekly training session. This joint training session also included the Coatesville VA, Modena, West Bradford and Cochranville Fire Companies. The training took place at the North Brandywine Middle school and the focus of the night was on water supply in rural areas.

Engine 44-5 is operated out of our main station and is classified as an engine and tanker hence the term pumper tanker. Engine 44-5 carries 3,000 gallons of water and has a 3,500-gallon port-a-tank that can be deployed anywhere. The purpose of the portable tank is to deliver water to a fire scene where an engine then pumps it into the attack pieces.

Tonight's scenario Engine 44-5, Tanker 39 and Tanker 27 shuttled water into the fire scene and discharged into the port-a-tank. Then Engine 38 from Thorndale drafted the water out of the tank and into the scene where they supplied Engine 76, Engine 37-1, and Engine 39-3.
