By Westwood Newsdesk
April 20, 2021

This morning at 0805 hours the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched to the unit block of Winged Foot Drive in Valley Township for an automatic fire alarm. Within 1 minute the assignment was upgraded to a structure fire as the occupant of the home advised their alarm company their alarm was activated from something on fire in their house.

This structure assignment brought additional units from the Sadsburyville and Wagontown Fire Companies and the Coatesville Fire Department.

Arriving first due, Rescue 44 with Chief 44 reported a working fire with smoke and fire showing on side C. Rescue 44 took position on side A and crews advanced a hose line into the front door.

Engine 44-5 arrived second due and established the Winged Foot Drive Command. Firefighters assisted with fire attack, overhaul and ventilation. Engine 44-5 also provided a water supply to Rescue 44.

Sadsburyville, Wagontown and Coatesville personnel all arrived within minutes and supported the first due units. The fire was quickly under control with all hands working.

The fire is being investigated by the Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office. Photographs courtesy of IrishEyez Photography. Thank you to the Honey Brook Fire Company for covering the area while we operated on this fire.

Fortunately, there were working smoke detectors in the home which alerted the residents who were upstairs at the time of the fire, giving them time to evacuate safely. This incident shows that smoke detectors in the home save lives. If you need help installing smoke detectors in your home, please feel free to reach out to the fire company.

Units: Rescue 44, Engine 44-5, MICU 44-1, Traffic 44,

Mutual Aid: Stations 31, 35, 41, 33
