| On Saturday, May 17th, 2014 the members of the Westwood Fire Company were visited by a special guest who was struck by a vehicle back on May 3rd, 2014.
On Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 a young five year old girl named Peyton was walking along side of Valley Road on the way to a local park and was struck by a vehicle. The Westwood Fire Company and Brandywine Hospital Medic 93 were dispatched for a pedestrian struck.
Upon arrival, EMTs Introcaso and Crawford found Peyton along the side of Valley Road. EMT Introcaso then began a rapid assessment and quickly worked together with Chief McWilliams, Assistant Chief Scott, and Fire Police Officer Pilotti to package the patient and prepare her for transport.
Medic 93-5 arrived on scene and Ambulance 44-1 along with Medic 93 transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital.
Shortly after the call, Fire Police Officer Pilotti was informed of the young girl's condition and that she was transferred from Paoli Hospital to the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia for further care and was later on released by the hospital. The family then had asked if Peyton could come and say thank you to her ambulance crew.
When Peyton arrived at the firehouse, she was walking beside her mother and was given a special tour of the ambulance and fire apparatus. She was graciously running around with her friends and family and it was if nothing had ever happened!
We want to thank Peyton's family for coming out to see us again and give us a kind thank you. Also a big thank you to the the career and volunteer staff who came out and conducted a coordinated team effort to help little Peyton!
It is a rare opportunity for our crews to see the positive impact they have on those we respond to help, so events like this are very special! |
