This class, which is 16 hours in duration, began earlier this week and consisted of 2 evening classroom sessions and a weekend practical session with hands-on training.
Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Instructor Jim Lingg is teaching this course, which is being held at our firehouse.
This class was open and offered to other local fire companies who wished to send members to participate and obtain certification. 3 Members of the Robert Fulton Fire Company and 2 members of the Kinzer Fire Company, both in Lancaster County are participating, as well as one member of the Sadsburyville Fire Company and one member of the Atglen Fire Company. The Westwood Fire Company has a total of 23 members participating. Some members are refreshing their training skills and taking the class for a second time.
The "Awareness" level of this 3-part course covers basic operations at a rescue scene. This includes fire extinguisher use for scene safety, stabilization of vehicles, patient packaging for extrication, and basic vehicle knowledge.
The next level of this course is the "Operations" level which will begin the first week of May.
