By Fire Chief John Sly
March 19, 2005

On Saturday, March 19th, 2005 the Westwood & Sadsburyville Fire Companies along with Medic 93 were dispatched to Winged Foot Drive in the Country Club Valley development section of Valley Township for a house fire with possible entrapment.

Chief 44 responded and received reports of a working fire with unknown occupants still in the structure. Firefighter Wurster arrived on scene less than 2 minutes after dispatch and confirmed a working fire in an end of the row townhome and all residents accounted for.

Engine 31-2 was just returning from a previous call and was on the street immediately, with Engine 44-5 responding a minute later.

Chief 44 arrived on location and assumed "Pine Valley Command." With a quick sizeup noting heavy fire from the end unit and smoke from the eaves of 3 ajoining units, a second alarm was quickly called for manpower, bringing an additional 2 Engines, 2 Tankers, and an air unit.

The fire was contained to the unit of origin with minor extension to one ajoining room in a home next door. The fire was officially placed under control at 1317. Great job to all personnel operating to save the homes in the row.

The fire was determined to have started in a dryer vent by the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office.

Avondale Tanker 23-2 & Modena Ambulance 37-2 stoodby at Westwood Fire Company, Honey Brook Engine 33-2 stoodby at Sadsburyville Fire Company, Engine 35 stoodby at Pomeroy Fire Company, and Lancaster Gap Engine 4-2-2 stoodby at Parkesburg Fire Company.
