By Westwood Newsdesk
August 14, 2023

On Monday August 14th, 2023 at 16:06, the Westwood Fire Company and mutual aid from Sadsburyville, Cochranville, Modena and Keystone Valley were dispatched to the unit block of Stone Lane in East Fallowfield Township for a house on fire.

Deputy Chief Scott responded and requested a working fire dispatch, based off 911 reports and a large header of smoke in the sky. Deputy Chief Scott arrived at 16:10, reporting a 2-story structure with fire showing from sides A and B and requested a 2nd alarm assignment with special call for Ladder 49 as a second RIT company. The additional alarm brought the Christiana and Wagontown Fire Companies to the scene.

Westwood Engine 44-5 arrived at 16:13 as the first suppression unit on scene. Firefighters deployed an attack line and immediately began fire attack. Keystone Ladder 08 positioned on Side A and got their stick to the rook for ventilation. Sadsburyville Rescue 31 arrived second due and backed up the first due engine with additional hose lines for fire attack in the garage area. Modena Engine 37-2 arrived third due, crews deployed another hose line into the structure to open up and stop fire spread. Cochranville and Christiana fire crews were next, and assisted interior of the structure as well.

Simultaneously with fire attack, all crews searched the structure to ensure everyone was out and accounted for. At one point, there was a report of children trapped in the structure.

Paramedics from Westwood and Downingtown were on scene to stand by for any firefighter and civilian support. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the scene.

The fire was officially placed under control at 16:44, just 38 minutes after the first 911 call was received. This time was drastically cut down due to the fast response of the responding companies and their quick actions on this large volume of fire. Avondale Engine 23-2 was transferred at our station to cover the area while we operated at this fire.
