Emergency Service Guide Regarding Winter Storm Fern

January 22, 2026

A significant winter storm is expected to impact our region over the coming weekend. Snow, ice, and high winds may create hazardous travel conditions and increase the likelihood of power outages, downed trees, and weather‑related emergencies.

As the storm approaches, Westwood Fire Company encourages everyone to stay informed, stay prepared, stay home and understand when it’s appropriate to call 911.

Call 911 immediately for:

• Fires of any kind (structure, vehicle, chimney, electrical, outdoor)
• Medical emergencies, including difficulty breathing, chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, or unconsciousness
• Serious vehicle accidents, especially those with injuries, entrapment, or hazards
• Downed power lines, sparking wires, or electrical hazards
• Gas odors or suspected carbon monoxide exposure
• Any situation where life or property is in immediate danger

Please do not use 911 for:

• Power outages (report to your utility provider)
• Questions about road conditions
• Minor property damage without injuries
• Non‑emergency transportation needs
• Routine wellness checks that are not time‑sensitive

Using 911 only for true emergencies ensures our dispatchers and responders can reach those who need help most during high‑volume storm periods.

Winter Storm Safety Tips

• Avoid unnecessary travel once snow and ice begin
• Keep phones charged and flashlights ready
• Never use generators indoors
• Clear hydrants near your home if it’s safe to do so
• Check on neighbors, especially older adults or those with medical needs

Our Fire and EMS crews will be staffed and ready throughout the storm. Thank you for helping keep our community safe by using 911 responsibly and preparing ahead of the weather.
