| On Thursday, February 21st, 2008 the Fire Company was dispatched at 1440 for an oven fire in the 200 block of Cemetery Road in the Hayti Section of Valley Township.
Engine 44-5 responded 2 minutes after dispatch and was advised that a homeowner reported a fire in the oven and the residents were evacuating.
During our response, the homeowner disconnected power to the home at the circuit breaker panel.
Assistant Chief Sly arrived on the scene at 1446 and reported the fire to be out. Rescue 44 responded at this time and was advised to hold on station by Assistant 44. Engine 44-5 was also instructed to reduce speed to a non-emergency response because the fire was extinguished.
When Engine 44-5 arrived, crews removed the appliance from the kitchen wall and disconnected all electric service to the oven at the request of the homeowner. Once it was determined that the fire had been contained to the oven itself, power was restored to the rest of the home.
The cause was due to a broken element inside of the oven.
All units cleared the scene at 1506. |
