| On the afternoon of Friday July 18th, 2008 the City of Coatesville Fire Department and an Engine from the Westwood Fire Company were dispatched to the 200 block of Charles Street in the rear for the reports of a garage on fire. Coatesville Engine 41-2 responded and reported smoke in the area as their firehouse is a block away.
Coatesville Assistant Chief Tracey arrived on location and confirmed a working garage fire and requested an additional engine to the scene from the Modena Fire Company. Assistant Chief Tracey assumed "Charles Street Command."
Coatesville Engine 41-2 arrived and laid 500' of 5" supply hose from the closest hydrant to the scene for a supply of water. Engine 41-2 then advanced two hose lines and began to suppress the fire.
Engine 44-5 arrived and assisted with extinguishing the fire. Crews then salvaged and overhauled the structure.
Coatesville and Westwood crews remained on the scene for a short time cleaning up hoses and hand tools.
Modena Engine 37-2 was not needed at the scene and was redirected to the Washington Hose Company to stand by.
The fire is under investigation by the Chester County and Pennsylvania State Fire Marshall's offices. |
