| On Saturday, August 30th, 2008 a loaner ambulance was placed into service at the Westwood Fire Company to provide coverage to our community.
On Friday, August 29th, 2008 while transporting a patient to the Lancaster General Hospital's Trauma Center, our Ambulance was struck by a vehicle on Lincoln Highway East in East Lampeter Township. Fortunately, the crew on board the Ambulance as well as all occupants of the striking vehicle were uninjured. However, due to the damage to the Ambulance, a decision was made to place the unit "out of service" until it could be completely repaired for the safety of our crews and our patients.
Assistant Chief Sly contacted the Avondale Fire Company to request the use of their secondary Ambulance, which they graciously allowed us to do.
Deputy EMS Chief Biddle and Firefighter/EMT Carr picked up the Ambulance on Saturday morning and after transferring equipment and filing the appropriate paperwork with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, placed the vehicle into service at Westwood.
Ambulance 44 was scheduled immediately at the body shop and is already undergoing repairs. Avondale Fire Company's Ambulance 23-1 will remain in service at Westwood until our unit is repaired.
Our thanks goes out to the Avondale Fire Company for the usage of Ambulance 23-1, the Gordonville Fire Company for their assistance both at the scene of the accident and following with offers to supply crews and a loaner vehicle, and all those who have expressed concern for our crew members.
We hope to have Ambulance 44 back to "good as new" very shortly. |
