| On Friday, January 2nd, 2009 our new tractor was delivered to the firehouse by Stoltzfus Farm Service of Cochranville, Pennsylvania.
Last year, Assistant Chief Sly applied for a grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to assist in the replacement process of our aging 1975 Massey Ferguson farm tractor which has served our company for many years.
Pennsylvania Senator John Rafferty heavily supported our grant application and through his hard work and efforts, the grant was awarded to assist in the acquisition of a new tractor.
The new tractor, a 2008 Kubota, features an enclosed cab which will provide a great benefit for year round use.
The fire company is situated on 18 acres of property which includes a community baseball field which is maintained by the fire company at no charge to the baseball leagues, our pavillion area, recreational areas, and our large parking lot for use by our bingo players. With this amount of land comes the responsibility of keeping it maintained.
Our current tractor is used each year to mow our large upper hillsides and pavillion areas throughout the summer. Assistant Chief Taylor is often found in the summer evenings and weekends cruising the hillside on our tractor to keep our property in fine condition.
Our new tractor will provide us with the ability to mow the fields, plow snow, lift up to 2,000 pounds with forks, and provide general property maintenance to our large facility.
We would like to thank our good friend Senator Rafferty and his staff for the support provided towards this project. Without the great assistance he continues to provide, we would not be able to afford the many items we have purchased in the past few years to upgrade our equipment and provide better services to the fire company and community at no additional cost to our residents. Grants of this type allow us to maintain some financial stability in a difficult economic time.
Our current tractor, a 1975 Massey Ferguson is currently FOR SALE. If you would like to inquire, please e-mail us at tractorsale@westwoodfire.com or call 610-383-1453. |
