| On Tuesday, October 6, 2009 members of the Westwood Fire Company along with Modena and Pomeroy Fire Companies visited the East Fallowfield Elementary School as part of our Fire Prevention Week activities aimed at local schools.
The day's events were organized by Firefighter/EMT Randy Scott, who started a "guest reader" program for the children a few years ago. Emergency Service personnel split into two crews and combined classes so a short story could be read too them. Once the story was over a short question and answer of Fire Prevention took place and a firefighter donned their personal protective equipment and explained to the children not to be afraid of firemen.
Following the reading, children were taken outdoors were they where able to get a close up look at the Fire and Ambulance apparatus. Everyone had an opportunity to climb aboard Rescue 44, Modena Ambulance 37-2, and Pomeroy Engine 29-1 and Ambulance 29-2. Crews took turns explaining the different aspects of the equipment and vehicles.
The morning was a great success with students having great opportunities to meet their local firefighters and EMTs, look at our equipment, and most importantly, learn about fire safety.
Thanks to the staff of the East Fallowfield Elementary School for hosting us!
Events will continue on Friday during school hours and Saturday evening at the school.
Thanks to the members who took the time from their busy schedules to continue to promote Fire Prevention! |
