Engine 44-5 was dispatched at 18:23 to assist the City of Coatesville for a reported building fire in the area of Strode Ave and Valley Road in the City.
Prior to responding the Chester County Fire Radio reported that the incident was going to be on the property of Mittal Steel. The first responding units from Coatesville reported that a heavy piece of machinery was on fire in the rolling mill building. The machine is a series of rollers which are used to flatten out the huge pieces of hot steel. The fire was feed by the large amounts of grease used to lubricate the large bearings of the rollers. There are many industrial hazards within the steel plant and crews are kept to a minimum for their safety and always under the direct supervision of a plant employee's.
Engine 44-5 was held with its crew at the Entrance to the plant on Strode Ave and Command requested Eng 44-5 stand-by and cover if a second emergency would happen in the City.
Crews cleared the scene at 19:15 hrs.
